New FVSU Center Helps Veterans Enter College

Fort Valley State University will welcome a new class of students starting today.

The college celebrated it’s grand opening of the Military Resource Center.
It’s a facility that will help veterans and their families with every aspect of college life.

Dr. Anna Holloway says, “When you go to an airport these days and you meet a service member, either you or someone else will walk up to them and say we thank you for your service, well I think this is a way the university can say we thank you for your service.”

FVSU wants to welcome all service men and women to further their education here in middle Georgia. Veterans can also seek assistance with group counseling and health services.

“We’re represented a lot by the army at the moment, but we’re near an air force base and we want to make our services available to people from all different branches,” said Holloway.

It’s a one stop shop specifically designed for troops and the overall big picture is to help soldiers become students.

Fort Valley State University is one of nine institutions participating in the University Systems of Georgia’s  “Soldiers 2 Scholars” outreach effort.
