SPRINGFIELD, IL – Woodstock, Georgia’s Tyler Speer is still very much a rookie in the ARCA series. But in only his fifth ARCA start on August 19th in the Allen Crowe 100 at Illinois State Fairgrounds he notched his first top 10 with a hard fought seventh place effort.
The TAS Racing Team with support from Fast Track High Performance Driving School gave Tyler a car good enough for a 16th place starting spot with just one lap of qualifying.
The one-mile dirt track is tough speedway with only one racing groove. Even more challenging as the fact it was only Speer’s tenth time racing on dirt.
After initially falling back at the start, the crew made some changes during fast pit stops allowing Tyler to work his way to the top five. On a late race restart, another car force the issue and he fell back to tenth after nearly spinning out. The young Speer fought his was back to claim 7th place at the checkers.
