LUMBER CITY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Telfair County Sheriff’s office seized 382 kilograms of cocaine from a home outside of Lumber City
“It’s the biggest one we ever had,” says Sheriff Johnny O. Smith.
He says the haul was worth a total of about $13 million wholesale. Sellers would pocket nearly $38 million if they sold it on the street. Telfair County resident Sophia Fordham says she was shocked at the amount of hidden drugs.
“I didn’t think a small city like us would have such a great demand of what they found,” says Fordham.
Sheriff’s deputies found the drugs at 2739 Golden Isles Highway. On Saturday afternoon, Smith says deputies were tipped off when they stopped two of the suspects in a routine traffic stop. He wouldn’t go into details about what it was that led deputies to the home, but says when they arrived two Hispanic men ran toward the woods.
