GC softball team’s Lewis named PBC Freshman of the Week

AUGUSTA, Ga. (GCSU RELEASE)– Georgia College freshman Carly Lewis (Seymour, Tenn.) has been selected as the Peach Belt Conference’s Softball Freshman of the Week. It is the first time this season she has been honored with the distinction as she ranks in the PBC top-10 in three categories.

Lewis went 2-1 in three starts on the week, pitching 21 innings with a 1.67 ERA.  The freshman walked 11 and struck out 12 while allowing five earned runs and 17 hits.

In her first outing, Lewis threw a complete game against the University of West Georgia, pitching eight innings to pick up her ninth win of the season. She gave up six hits and one run, while recording two strikeouts.

In her second start of the week, Lewis faced UNC Pembroke, tossing six innings and picking up the loss. She allowed only two earned runs on five hits and struck out seven batters.

Her last appearance of the week saw Lewis record her eighth complete game of the season in 11 starts, going seven innings against Francis Marion University, allowing two earned runs and striking out three.

Lewis leads the PBC in saves with three, while ranking fifth in the conference in ERA. Her 10 wins this season are good enough for sixth in the PBC.
