GC golf selected to NCAA Regional Tournament for 17th consecutive year

SAVANNAH, Ga. (GCSU RELEASE) – The Georgia College’s golf team has been selected to the NCAA Division II Men’s Golf South/Southeast Regionals as a Southeast selection. Ten Southeast Region and 10 South Region teams will compete May 5-7 at the Savannah Quarters Country Club Golf Course in Pooler, Ga., with seven teams from both the Southeast and South regions gaining berths to the Nationals. Six of the 10-selected southeast teams are from the Peach Belt Conference (PBC).

The Bobcats have now been selected to the South/Southeast Regionals for an impressive 17th-consecutive year, with the string beginning in 1998. During that span, Georgia College has emerged as the South/Southeast Region Champion twice last winning it in 2012.

Receiving automatic Southeast bids are tournament conference champions from the PBC, South Atlantic Conference (SAC) and Conference Carolinas (CC) with USC Aiken, Carson-Newman University and Erskine College getting the nod as respective conference tournament winners.

The South and Southeast regions will account for seven berths, the most of the four geographic regions. The West and South Central regions will account for six berths. The Midwest and Central regions will advance four teams, while the Atlantic and East regions will receive three berths.

Joining Georgia College in the Southeast Region are USC Aiken, , Columbus State University, Flagler College, Clayton State University, Queens University, Erskine, Limestone College, Carson-Newman and host of the tournament Armstrong Atlantic State University.

Coupled with the Southeast Region for the seven berths at stake for the Nationals is the South Region. Teams selected from the South include: Barry University, Lynn University, Nova Southeastern University, University of West Florida, University of North Alabama, Saint Leo University, Florida Institute of Technology, Rollins College, Florida Southern College and Delta State University.

Tucker grew up near Auburn, before moving to north Alabama. He graduated from Danville High School in 2007 and loves to return to the Tennessee Valley any chance he gets. He moved back south to Troy, Alabama after high school, where he graduated from Troy University in 2011 with a B.S. in Broadcast Journalism. He interned in Huntsville at WAAY-TV before joining 41NBC.
