From the corsage to the shoes, Joe Kovac and Ronnita Whipple showed up to Central High School’s prom in tape.
But, you wouldn’t know it from the impressive design.
"It took about 400 hours," said Whipple.
Pair that with 90 rolls of duct tape to perfect the look.
"Everyone you was you know shocked and stunned," said Whipple.
That’s the reaction she was aiming for.
"Making a big dramatic entrance for my senior prom," said Whipple.
Her design landed her and Kovac in the top 10 couples for Duck Tape’s "Stuck at Prom" contest. They’re one of 150 couples to make it to the finals.
"It was a really good ego boost," said Whipple.
If their look comes out on top, they’ll each win $10,000 for college. The duo can thank a school counselor for encouraging them to compete.
"Ronnita was such a wonderful, outstanding art student. She’s going to SCAD this year in the fall. She figured she’d be the perfect one to try it," said Kovac.
If getting stuck, or in Kovac’s case sweaty at prom, wins them the grand prize, most will probably say it was worth it.
"I realized I couldn’t move, so I figured that’s why they call it stuck at prom," said Whipple.
"We were downtown at the Armory Ballroom and there was no air conditioning at all," said Kovac.
