Crawford County Coroner still waiting for answers

ROBERTA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Crawford County’s Coroner still doesn’t know if he’ll be able to do his job.

Crawford County Coroner Allen O’Neal says the commissioners won’t give him the equipment he needs like rubber boots and a car.

He’s asked the board for it repeatedly.

Board members discussed the situation in a closed session.

He’s suing the county because of it.

"There’s a vehicle parked in the next lot over that’s been there for over six months that I could have been using," said O’Neal. "Oh, I have asked the county commissioners–I’ve asked Pat Kelly. I’ve even talked to the attorney general. They say there’s nothing I can do without going through this deal we’re going through now."

O’Neal says other coroners from neighboring counties receive what he’s asking for.

According to him, by law, he’s supposed to get the needed equipment — in addition to a monthly stipend.

Commissioners and the county attorneys had no comment when asked about what happened after the closed meeting.
