The Bears received Presidential Special Recognition status, which is given to programs that have eclipsed a 3.5 GPA. Mercer was one of just 11 NCAA Division I teams and among 20 nationally on the prestigious list.
To be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors, an institution must submit GPAs for each player on its official squad list for the academic year.
Last week, Mercer’s James Beale became the first golfer in program history to repeat as a Cleveland/Srixon All-America Scholar. To receive the honor, student-athletes must maintain a minimum GPA above 3.2.
The team academic award adds to a decorated 2014 season for the Bears, who also claimed the 2014 Atlantic Sun title and made their NCAA Regional debut.
