MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (GMC RELEASE) – Dave Sexton has been named the new men’s soccer head coach at Georgia Military College according to an announcement by GMC Director of Athletics Bert Williams.

Sexton comes to GMC from Georgia Perimeter College, where he has served as an assistant coach since 2013, and will begin immediately with the Bulldogs’ men’s program.

“I was especially pleased to have the opportunity to bring in such an accomplished coach as Dave Sexton,” said Williams. “I was especially impressed with the job he did at Louisburg College as Director of Soccer and Head Men’s Coach. His record on the field and his record in graduating his players were especially strong. I am excited to have him lead our men’s soccer program.”

Sexton was an assistant coach at Southern Polytechnic State University (Ga.) from 2011-13 and also coached at Gol Soccer Academy and The Georgia Revolution in the metro Atlanta area.

Sexton enjoyed great success at Louisburg College (N.C) as the director of soccer (2007-2011) and men’s head coach (1998-2011).

Sexton’s teams have posted a 196-55-11 overall record during his collegiate head coaching career, including six National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) tournament appearances at Louisburg.

Three of those teams were national semifinalists in 2005, 2006 and 2009.

Sexton was also a nine-time coach-of-the-year in Region 10.

“I would like to thank Georgia Military College Athletics Director Bert Williams and Assistant AD Steve Argo for the opportunity they have provided me to lead the men’s soccer program,” said Sexton. “I am excited about the prospects for the upcoming season and for developing the program further in the future. My objective is to make the men’s soccer program a regional power and eventually qualify for the (National Junior College Athletic Association) tournament.”

Sexton holds a bachelor’s of humanities degree from St. Mary’s College at the University of London, England, and a master’s of science degree in leisure studies and recreation administration from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.

Sexton played at St. Mary’s College at the University of London where he was a team captain and also represented British Colleges Soccer Team (1983-84) and Uxbridge Football Club (1984-86).

GMC’s men’s team begins the 2014 season with scrimmages at Brewton-Parker (Ga.) on August 14 and at Faulkner University (Ala.) on August 20.

The Bulldogs’ regular-season opener will be on August 24 at Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) foe Andrew College (Ga.).

GMC’s home opener will be September 6 when East Florida State College comes to town for a 7 p.m. contest.

GMC went 13-5-1 during the 2013 season and the 13 wins were the most in school history. The Bulldogs also advanced to the semifinals of the GCAA tournament during last year’s record-breaking season.
