Restaurant Report Card: Skipper John’s in Perry

0
PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Fried chicken is a taste of the south.

Our Sean Franklin found a place that’s not only making its own special recipe, but it’s also making the grade.

They’re battering it up, and letting it sizzle.

This week’s restaurant report card has a bit of a crunch to it.

"It’s reminding me of the way my mom used to make them," said customer Tracy Dean.

But first, a look at the restaurants who need to step it up this week.

Cheddar’s Casual Cafe on Watson Boulevard in Warner Robins passed, but it wasn’t too pretty.

It scored a 79.

They didn’t have their food labeled properly, utensils equipment or linens weren’t properly stored, dried or handled, and food did not have the proper cooling time and temperature.

Buffalo’s Cafe on Zebulon Road scored an 84.

Food was not at the proper cold holding temperature 3 different times, some employees lacked personal cleanliness, and food surfaces were not cleanable, properly designed, or constructed.

Generally good scores again this week, and Skipper John’s on Macon Road in Perry is no exception–they made a 100.

Their specialty is fried chicken–and owner Nancy White’s recipe has been a big success.

"We stuck to the same recipe, and things have stayed the same," said White.

That recipe gives the chicken a unique taste–whether you’re having dark or white meat, thigh or breast.

And, she has high standards of cleanliness.

"They say I’m a fanatic about being clean because I believe in being clean because we deal with chicken and that’s very highly bacterial so you got to be safe," said White.

"If you come and eat here, you will come back for more…it’s a guarantee," said customer Pat Brooks.

"You get the good, home cooked feel, southern feel," said customer Erin Jones.

"It’s real clean, real clean environment, the yards, the whole works," said Dean. "It’s just a real nice place to come and eat–bring your family."

You can bring your family, but no matter what you do, bring your appetite for some southern fried chicken you won’t want to miss.

Skipper John’s is making the grade.
