With some fairy dust and a little TV magic, you can travel to Neverland during NBC’s Peter Pan Live!
“It’s truly [a] live, theatrical experience but shot more like a movie,” F. Michael Haynie said.
Watch the boy who never grew up take on Captain Hook. You will also see Macon’s own F. Michael Haynie dancing and singing as “Slightly Soiled,” one of Peter Pan’s Lost Boys.
F. Michael Haynie auditioned for the show this summer and went through eight intense weeks of rehearsals leading up to the live telecast. He also performed in this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and on the TODAY show.
"I think we have a really, really great show with really unique and amazing performances and truly a Peter Pan that no one has ever seen before,” F. Michael Haynie said.
The 2004 Stratford Academy graduate is no stranger to the stage. He grew up in a theatre family and has performed all of his life. He moved to New York in 2004 to attend New York University where he received a B.F.A. in theatre. After graduating from NYU, he appeared in several shows, including two Broadway shows, Wicked and Holler If Ya Hear Me. Even with all of this experience, he says Peter Pan Live! is a performance unlike any other.
"It’s one time and then it’s over. If I add up every single time I’ve been on a stage…it doesn’t add up to the number of people that will see this telecast in one night,” F. Michale Haynie said.
Millions of people will be watching, including his mother Sylvia Haynie.
"I can hardly breathe thinking about it,” Sylvia Haynie said.
Sylvia Haynie is the director of theatre at Stratford Academy and used to teach her son while he attended school. She says her family had to keep this role a secret for a while, but now she’s excited to share her son’s success with everyone.
“A community helped raised him and I want the community to share in this excitement,” Sylvia Haynie said.
F. Michael Haynie will perform alongside big stars, like Christopher Walken and Allison Williams. The show features huge dance numbers and incredible sets.
"It’s truly the craziest, craziest undertaking in the world and we are so excited,” F. Michael Haynie said. “We’re so excited about it."
It’s a once in a lifetime experience and F. Michael Haynie remembers where he got his start.
"The theatre culture in Macon is exceptional and it’s only getting better and bigger and more exciting,” F. Michael Haynie said. “I love the support I’ve been getting from the Macon community and I hope I can give back a little bit of it on Thursday night."
You can watch Peter Pan Live! Thursday at 8 p.m. on 41NBC.
