Communities across Georgia are bringing in Christmas gifts for patients of Central State Hospital and Milledgeville residents.
Some of the gifts included clothes, toiletries, and games.
"There are a lot of individuals that if they did not receive those donations they wouldn’t get a gift for Christmas, so it is very important and critical that they get those gifts for everyone, " Co-Director of Mayor’s Day Shannon New-Diaz said.
The Central State Hospital Chapel hosted celebration, where a packed house sang traditional Christmas songs, watched dance groups, and listened to Georgia Military College’s ensemble band.
"This is a great way to start the holidays and help out some needy people," attendee Michele Smith said.
Organizers say they have received a significantly lower amount of gifts this year.
"Usually, we have boxes and boxes of gifts, but so far this year, we haven’t gotten a lot of gifts," organizer Latasha James said.
Central State Hospital will be accepting any donations through the end of the week.
