DUBLIN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Marcus Hill was fatally shot Friday morning at the Urban Gear store on High Street.
Dublin Police Chief Wayne Cain says the shooting happened around 11 a.m. The shooting suspect, Jessie Ivey, is in custody. He is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and aggravated assault. Chief Cain adds it depends on the investigation if any other charges will be filed.
"Nobody deserves to get shot. I don’t care what it’s about," said Alyssa Martinez, a friend of Hill.
Martinez says her friend didn’t deserve to die.
"He was my personal trainer. He taught my kids boxing," recalled Martinez.
They had just finished a workout when Hill asked Martinez for a favor.
"He borrowed my car today to run some errands for boxing tonight and he wanted to go to McDonald’s to get some coffee," said Martinez.
An hour later, she learned her friend wasn’t coming back.
"I kept calling him. I knew something was wrong and next thing we heard, he had been shot and killed," explained Martinez.
Martinez isn’t sure why someone would do this.
"Marcus is a great guy. He does not like confrontation," said Martinez.
The shock of losing a good friend isn’t the only thing she’s feeling.
"I feel guilty, like I should have brought him here or I should have said no, you can’t use my car today," explained Martinez.
She will always remember the way Hill treated her and her family.
