Former Centerville Mayor passes away at 84

CENTERVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A former Centerville mayor passed away this week.

Rev. Cedric L. Jones served as the mayor of Centerville from 1965 to 1971. The 84-year-old passed away on Tuesday.

According to his obituary, he was born in Girard, Alabama on August 5, 1930. He was the son of Oscar Jones and Eurie Bowen Jones. His wife of 35 years, Jacquilin W. Jones, died last month.

The obituary states Jones retired from Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base. He started his ministry at the age of 13. Jones served as a pastor to many churches over his lifetime in Georgia and Alabama. He also co-founded the Upper Room Ministers in the Columbus/Phenix City area.

Jones is survived by his four sons, seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
