Board members ready for Macon Charter Academy lottery

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Parents of students hoping to attend Macon Charter Academy will soon find out if their child into the school. 

The lottery for students in kindergarten through 6th grade starts Saturday at 10 a.m.

School board members also say they’re ready to get the ball rolling on renovating the school. Monya Rutland, one of the academy’s founders, says the school’s goal is to give kids an opportunity to better prepared when they head into the work force.

"It’s no longer enough to just be the best in Bibb County, or in Macon, or in the state of Georgia you have to be the best in the world. We want to prepare our students to compete on a global scale," Rutland said. 

She adds the renovations should be finished by the end of the summer. She says the schools is still accepting applications for 7th and 8th graders.

Skyler anchored and reported for Georgia Southern University's "Eagle News." There he covered the 2010 midterm elections live as well as reported on stories in the community. In the Spring 2012, Skyler interned for Clear Channel in Los Angeles, California. Skyler is a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. In his free time, you can find Skyler watching the latest movies and reading up on all things in Hollywood. He also loves spending time with his family and friends and finding inspirational quotes.
