UPDATE: Suspicious package at Macon motel is a novelty alarm clock

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb Sheriff’s Office’s bomb squad responded to a suspicious package call at a Macon motel, but it turned out to be a novelty alarm clock.

According to Deputy Clay Williams, the call came in around 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Howard Johnson on Riverside Drive. The caller reported seeing a suspicious package inside a vehicle.

When authorities arrived on the scene, the car’s owner told them it was a plastic clock that looked like fake dynamite. The motel was not evacuated, but authorities moved people away from the scene.

Williams says the bomb squad determined it was an alarm clock and not an explosive.

The scene was cleared a little more than an hour after the call came into the authorities.
