MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Milledgeville City Council set the date for a special election to fill the unexpired term of former Mayor Richard Bentley.

According to the city ordinance council passed last week, the special election will be held on June 16. Qualifying is from Wednesday, April 15 through Thursday, April 16 at City Hall. The qualifying fee is $252.00

Bentley resigned from office on February 2.
According to his resignation letter, Bentley states he was resigning due to his recent medical crisis and difficulties involving his former business. In October 2014, he stepped down from the position saying he was unable to perform his responsibilities as mayor due to personal medical issues.

The winner of the special election will fill Bentley’s unexpired term which ends in 2017.

Bentley served as Milledgeville’s mayor for a decade.
