FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Some Fort Valley women are preparing to fight back against attackers.

Nearly 75 women were at the Austin Theater in downtown Fort Valley Saturday.

The self defense class was hosted by HODAC and Fort Valley Police Department.

The women learned a variety of tactics and techniques to use if they were attacked.

Steven Moodie and Stanley Warren taught the class. Moodie is a personal trainer and self defense instructor. Warren teaches self defense classes at Robins Air Force Base.

"Using your own body mass and weight that’s how you’re able to control yourself a little bit," says Moodie. "But when you create tension, then it’s very difficult for you to use that energy because you’re holding it back."

The next Fight Like a woman self defense class will be June 13. The class is free and will be held at the Warner Robins Recreation Department located at 800 Watson Blvd. in Warner Robins from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

Organizers ask that participants wear tennis shoes and comfortable exercise clothes.
