FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Investigators with the GBI say they’re confident the man officers arrested over the weekend is connected to the string of break-ins and rape cases in Fort Valley.

25-year-old Darrell Ross was in court Monday morning on trespassing and gun possession charges. Agents say the amount of evidence they’ve seized is piling up against Ross.

"I can’t say how many charges, but I can say without a doubt that we’re going to link him to several of our cases," J.T. Ricketson, the special agent in charge at the GBI Perry office, said.

Members of the Peach County Sexual Assault Task Force say Ross could be the man they’ve been looking for these past weeks.

"They found a lot of evidence that would be involved in previous break-ins, previous sexual assault cases," Ricketson said.

He says he and investigators are looking over clues that could link Ross to the rape cases. While he won’t release which cases Ross could be connected to, Ricketson is going through the evidence.

"We feel confident that this is our person. We’re just going to build our case. More arrest warrants will be forthcoming," Ricketson said.

According to the Fort Valley Police Department, Ross is in the Peach County Jail for an unrelated probation violation from a burglary conviction.

Ricketson says if Ross is convicted, the couple who called 911 after spotting Ross could receive the $10,000 reward.

FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Peach County Sexual Assault Task Force is investigating a man officials say could be connected to the recent rapes and burglaries in the area.

A woman reported 25 year-old Darrell Ross to police after watching him wander around her home. Fort Valley Public Safety Officials said Ross is facing several charges, including trespassing, prowling, and possessing tools and a gun in an attempt to commit a crime. He’s being held in the Peach County jail without bond.

The woman who lives at the home, Lasha Gibson, said she and her boyfriend came home Sunday night around 11:00 and saw Ross in her backyard. They watched him walk around the apartment building while shining a flashlight. He was wearing a mask and gloves. Gibson’s boyfriend confronted Ross and told Gibson to call the police. Gibson said when officers searched Ross, they found a taser and a gun.

"There was no reason for him to be prowling around with black gloves in his pocket. He had on a sweater jacket. It was hot last night. There was no reason. He was up to no good," said Gibson.

The Peach County Sexual Assault Task Force is investigating to see if additional charges need to be filed. If investigators find Ross is connected to the recent string of sexual assaults and break-ins, he could face charges like rape, kidnapping, and burglary.
