It was a pitcher’s duel in the loser-go-home game at Little League Southeast Park.
For Virginia, Riley Dull struck out 12 batters and gave up five hits in eight innings. Georgia’s Emma Williams struck out eight and also gave up five hits in eight innings.
"It was pretty nerve-wracking all through eight innings until we got that one run," says Emma Williams, who pitched an eight inning, five hit shutout. "It was like, ‘OK, let’s do this now.’"
In the top of the eighth inning, Emma’s twin sister Ellie’s sacrifice fly scored Reagan Stella to give Georgia a 1-0 lead. That was all it would need to set up a Sunday night rematch with Tennessee for a spot in Monday’s regional final.
Tennessee beat Georgia 4-3 Friday before falling 8-3 to North Carolina on Sunday.
Georgia and Tennessee will meet Sunday at 7. The region championship game is Monday at 10 a.m.
