Georgia (Warner Robins American), which outscored its opponents 121-11 in the district, state and regional tournaments, was shut down at the plate by North Carolina pitcher Kali Morton. Morton pitched six shutout innings, giving up just two hits and striking out nine batters.
Rylee Lamb went five innings on the mound for Georgia, giving up two runs and three hits while striking out four batters.
North Carolina (Rowan) opened the scoring in the first inning after an infield error by Georgia and added another run in the fourth off Kaylin Dowling’s RBI groundout.
North Carolina advances to the Little League Softball World Series in Portland, Oregon. It will play the Canada representative (Layritz Little League of Victoria, British Columbia) in its first game there on Thursday, August 13.
