Soperton City Councilman turned himself in to sheriff’s office

SOPERTON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Soperton City Councilman turned himself in to the Treutlen County Sheriff’s office.

Royce Fowler surrendered to the sheriff’s office, Monday, Aug. 10, in response to warrants being issued for his arrest.

The 51-year-old is accused of striking a Soperton resident with his fist on Tuesday Aug. 4, at the 221 C Store on Mt. Vernon Road.

But according to Fowler the confrontation began the day before, when the unidentified resident allegedly refuse to move out of roadway preventing Fowler from driving down Georgia Highway 29, on Monday Aug. 3

"It was so strange I look back now and wonder was I dreaming all of that," said Fowler, who was driving his dump truck at the time of the incident. "I had no idea who he was when he stopped me in the roadway. Now I know him."

Fowler is charged with one count of Battery and one count of making Terroristic Threats and Acts.
