Macon boxing center celebrates anniversary with tournament

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – It’s been one year since Bishop Frank Ray Arena at the Macon-Bibb United Boxing Center opened its doors.

To celebrate, Macon-Bibb County Parks and Recreation held an "Anniversary Showcase" Saturday. The tournament, featuring both in-state and out-of-state boxers, consisted of boys and girls of all ages.

The center, located in the former gym and community center at Freedom Park on Roff Avenue, was converted using penny tax money as a way to help remove at-risk youth and young adults from the streets while providing them with a unique opportunity.
