MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon-Bibb taxpayers will be paying more for their trash pick up.

Commissioners passed a new plan Tuesday night. It amends the county’s contract with Advanced Disposal Services.

Right now, solid waste picks up recycling in the former city and ADS picks up recycling in the former county. The new agreement lets ADS pick up all the garbage, while the county handles all recycling. The county will also be responsible for "bulky" waste like tree limbs and furniture. The plan will increase all taxpayer fees to $20.

A county spokesman, Chris Floore, said this is part of a waste management plan commissioners passed months ago.

"Expand the recycling program county-wide, close the landfill, and build a recycling transfer station. If we can show the need for recycling and use the need for recycling it really helps us justify the center which could, in the future, generate revenue for us," said Floore.

The changes will start in January. Pick up will still be bi-weekly, but the county is offering bigger recycling bins to those that request them. To place your order use See Click Fix or call Customer Service at (478) 751-7400.
