Milledgeville Police arrest person of interest in drive-by shootings

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Milledgeville Police officers arrested a man who is a person of interest in the drive-by shootings.

Major John Davis with Milledgeville Police said Craig Barnes was arrested Saturday. Officers received a tip that Barnes was at the Fairfield Inn on North Columbia Street. Davis explained as officers were trying to get into Barnes’ room, Barnes threw ecstasy, marijuana and guns out of the window. Davis said the two guns were stolen. They were registered in Cherokee County. Barnes was initially wanted for a probation warrant, according to the Milledgeville Police Department.

The guns are being tested. Barnes is charged with 3 counts of narcotics violations, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, theft by receiving stolen property and criminal street gang activity.

Davis said Barnes is a person of interest in the drive-by shootings that started in July. Multiple homes and vehicles were shot up in recent months.
