MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A former Bibb County Sheriff’s captain wants to be the next sheriff.
Mike Smallwood announced his campaign Thursday. He said the sheriff’s office can be run more efficiently. He’s also upset with the crime statistics. He wants to implement some of the departments’ “old ways” before consolidation.
“We’re going to get some people out of the offices. We’ve got too many. We’ve got two PIOs. I don’t know why we’ve got two PIOs because every time something happens, the Sheriff’s the one giving all the press releases so they can be out here in the street if we short in the street,” said Smallwood.
Election Day in Macon-Bibb County is May 24.
