Marriott: U.S. hotel towels and bath mats will be made in USA

BETHESDA, Maryland (41NBC/WMGT) – The president of hotel chain, Marriott, says for the first time ever the company is providing “Made in USA” towels for every guest.

The new commitment creates 150 new jobs for the Standard Textile company. The company has locations in Thomaston and in Union, South Carolina.

“As a global company based in the United States, we’re proud to be the first hospitality company to commit to providing our guests with ‘Made in USA’ bathroom towels in our U.S. hotels,” Marriott President and CEO Arne Sorenson said.

According to a news release, the change means the annual production of 2.6 million bath towels and 4.9 million hand towels. The move to manufacture the textiles in the U.S. would also eliminate more than 300 ocean going container shipments annually.
