MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Baldwin County’s coroner says an elderly woman who’s body was found inside her home Wednesday was stabbed to death.

Coroner John Gonzales says 76-year-old Sandra Brantley-Barrett was killed from “multiple sharp trauma stabbing wounds.” He added it’s enough to rule her death a homicide.

Sheriff Bill Massee says, as of now, no one has been charged in Brantley-Barrett’s murder.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Baldwin County sheriff’s deputies and agents with the GBI are looking into how and why a 76-year-old woman was killed.

Sheriff Bill Massee says Sandra Brantley-Barrett’s son found her body inside her home around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday at 143 Bill Johnson Road.

The home sits next to Lake Sinclair.

Agents with the GBI were immediately called in and a dive team from the state patrol is checking the lake for evidence.

Steven Barrett, the son of the woman who was killed, was arrested on an unrelated charge Wednesday.

“We’re not positive we’ll find anything in the lake,” Massee said. “We’re checking just for elimination purposes.”

Massee says he’s known Brantley-Barrett and her family for years and couldn’t imagine anything like that happening to her.

“I’ve known her almost my whole life. Very nice people. I know about three generations of her family. It’s a terrible tragedy,” Massee said.

Sandra’s son Steven Barrett — the one who found her body — was arrested Wednesday afternoon for an unrelated charge.

The state issued a restraining order against Steven for coming to Sandra’s house after a series of domestic issues according to Sheriff Massee.

Steven is charged with probation violation.

Sandra’s body is at the GBI crime for an autopsy.

This is an ongoing investigation. Keep checking 41NBC.com for updates to the story.
