MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The fans didn’t turn out in droves, but those who showed up had plenty to cheer about Wednesday night at the Macon Centreplex.

A posted attendance of 1,206 watched the Macon Mayhem win its first ever playoff game, a 3-2 upset of top-seed Peoria.

The Rivermen, who went 5-0 against Macon in the regular season, jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period after a goal by Cody Dion. Jackson Brewer tied the game later in the first before Shawn Skelly put the Mayhem ahead in the second. Peoria’s Dave Pszenyczny knotted it back up less than two minutes later, but Jake Trask’s goal with 1:15 left in the period gave Macon the lead for good.

Mahyem goaltender Garrett Bartus turned away 41 of the 43 shots he faced, including a dozen in the final period.

Game 2 of the best-of-three series is Friday at 9 p.m. ET in Peoria. Game 3, if necessary, is Saturday at 8:30 ET in Peoria.
