MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Power is out in part of downtown Macon after a man drove his car into a utility pole.

A spokesman with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office says 25-year-old Sheral Deshazer was driving down Georgia Avenue when witnesses say he veered of the road and hit the pole.

It happened just before 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Georgia Power says it may take up to five hours before power is restored to the area. Georgia Avenue, from the 1000 block until Spring Street, is blocked off.

Deshazer was taken to the hospital where he’s being treated for a broken leg.
