MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb County sheriff’s deputies are looking for speeders and distracted drivers.
The department announced a new traffic initiative Tuesday.
A speed sign was installed on Wimbish Road because the sheriff’s office recently received a lot of complaints from that area.
Traffic stops aren’t limited to speeding. Deputies are also looking for seat belt and child safety seat violations. They can also pull you over anytime your phone is visible in your hand, even if it’s just for GPS.
“They have hands free devices where you can put it on your window. You can stick it on the air conditioning vents so that you don’t have to put your hands on your phone to add another distraction to driving. There’s already been a lot of injuries and fatalities in Macon and we’re trying to minimize that number,” said Deputy Dominque Johnson.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office will establish problem areas through crash patterns and traffic violation numbers.
