MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – This year’s Leadership Macon class plans to complete two miles of the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail as its community service project.
The project runs from Amerson River Park to Riverside Cemetery.
Construction includes a major bridge over a large gully and several smaller foot bridges.
2016 class members will help with cutting a path through the woods, building the smaller bridges and raising the $95,000 cost.
“I’ve witnessed their sweat equity and I’ve seen their enthusiasm and without this bridge that is going on the other side of the river we couldn’t connect what we’re trying to do,” said Stephen Lawson from Macon-Bibb Parks and Beautification.
The project is expected to be completed by November 2016.
