MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Medical Center, Navicent Health opened its Pediatric Emergency Room Monday.
The Medical Center, Navicent Health wanted to offer top notch services in a convenient location.
Most people don’t plan to come to the hospital, but if you’re under 18 and need to see a doctor quickly, the Medical Center, Navicent Health has you covered.
“This is a big day for the community. This marks the day where all the need for specialized pediatric care will be fulfilled,” said Dr. Rogelio de la Cruz, the Director of the Pediatric Emergency Center.
The new Pediatric Emergency Center has seven rooms ready to take in patients who don’t feel well.
“Complaints as simple as ear aches to as complex as trauma because we are a level one trauma center,” explained Dr. de la Cruz.
Doctors are trained specifically to handle pediatric patients.
“We have pediatric hematologists, pediatric cardiologists, pediatric radiologists. If they come to the emergency room and they need to be admitted to the hospital, they can be admitted to the pediatric floor and they can also be admitted to the pediatric ICU,” explained Dr. de la Cruz.
The facility was designed knowing some kids may not like visiting the doctor.
“The colors. I mean, look at it. It’s sort of relaxing. [There are] murals on the walls,” explained Dr. Anthony Pearson-Schaver, the Chief of Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital, Navicent Health.
However, it’s the quality service doctors and nurses provide that Dr. Pearson-Schaver looks for when he brings his own children to an ER.
“[I’m] looking more for approach than anything else, but also confidence. You’ve got to be confident that you can deal with this child and that sort of fine tunes your approach and yes, I think you see it here,” said Dr. Pearson-Schaver.
The Pediatric Emergency Center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
