MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – About a hundred of the less fortunate got a change to eat a free lunch Tuesday afternoon.
The Mentor’s Project put on it’s 17th annual cookout at the Loaves and Fishes building.
Executive Director June O’Neal says the group’s mentees, along with volunteers from the Cherry Blossom Festival, Middle Georgia Community Food Bank and Wellcare helped dish out food.
“This is all about a legacy of service. Not only do we want to encourage young people to graduate from high school and attend college, we want them to be productive citizens that volunteer. It’s not all about us, it’s about everybody,” she said.
O’Neal says she didn’t turn anyone away, and gave away the food until they didn’t have anything left.
