BYRON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Medical Center of Peach County introduced its new mobile MRI coach Wednesday.
Bought by Navicent Health, the rolling MRI offers diagnostic testing to residents in small towns.
“This technology now is deliverable to smaller communities and hospitals that wouldn’t be able to pay for a full time system,” Michael Hajworonsky, Assistant VP of Neurosciences and Imaging Services for Navicent Health said.
It’s a new tool for the Medical Center of Peach County that alleviates the strain of having to travel long distances to receive diagnostic testing.
“People are getting routine scans, on a regular basis, now you’re saving yourself a 30 minute trip up the road,” Darren Pearce, CAO of the Peach County Medical Center said. “If you have it here there’s going to be savings in the long run for the patient.”
Navicent Health officials traveled all the way to Chicago to look at the MRI coach before buying it. They even custom designed the trailer to be more comfortable for patients.
Hajworonsky loved how it turned out.
“I’ve never been in one that looks like this, most of the mobile MRI’s are very plain and sterile looking,” he said. “We designed this specifically for that patient ambiance.”
The MRI coach is immediately available for residents in Peach County and Putnam County. It’s another big acquisition for the the Medical Center of Peach County, who renovated their main building just three years ago.
“To have this kind of technology in Peach county, a small rural county, it’s amazing,” Pearce said.
