MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Middle Georgia Regional Airport can send you to the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi.
Tickets for the three night getaway are $440.
“We’ve had three flights back in the spring as kind of a test market. There were 126 seats on each flight and all of them were sold out,” Blake Roy, Operations Manager at the airport said.
Roy calls it a big win for Macon and the airport, which hasn’t had airline service in two years.
“A good starting point for rebuilding passenger service here in Middle Georgia,” Roy said.
Troy Douglas, Executive Director of Charter Services for MGM Resorts International Mississippi Operations says it’s a good time.
“There’s a poker room here as well, it has a wide variety of slots and table game offerings to customers. So really if you’re a gamer, no matter what you like to play you can find it here,” Douglas said.
The weekend flights begin August 26 and run once a month through December. They are similar to normal commercial flights.
“I would say there’s a little bit of a better experience than that, particularly when it comes to luggage. Literally the check-in process for the entire flight takes 20 minutes,” Douglas said.
Besides convenience, safety is also a priority.
“The airport is fully federalized by the TSA,” Roy said. “We have the Transportation Security Administration here we have a full checkpoint with a rapid scan baggage system that is going to be installed next week.”
Middle Georgia Regional Airport hopes to have two airline services by the end of the year.
