First monthly flight leaves from Macon for Beau Rivage in Biloxi

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The first charter flight from Macon Regional Airport to the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino left Friday afternoon.

125 of the 126 seats on the Sun Country jet were filled.

“The number of calls we’re getting on a daily basis is keeping us really busy,” Doug Faour, Macon-Bibb Airport Manager said. “In fact, the lady who answers our phone has been overworked recently.”

41NBC spoke with one passenger as she was boarding the plane. She said security was quick.

“Definitely a lot easier than Atlanta, a lot easier than Augusta. It didn’t take five seconds, it was great,” the passenger said.

Faour says things are looking up at the airport; one of it’s strength is its convenience.

“The passengers that travel through Middle Georgia Regional Airport, they avoid the hassle of the TSA lines because we’re not processing hundreds of flights at one time, we’re doing one or two,” Faour said.

He hopes to have flights to Washington D.C. by the end of the year.

“We’re trying a different approach and we’ere confident it’s gonna be successful,” Faour said.

The flights on Sun Country Airlines are part of a three-night package costing each person $440. Packages include round trip airfare, deluxe accommodations and ground transportation from Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport to the Beau Rivage in Biloxi, Mississippi.
