FVSU fans, students celebrate SIAC championship

FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Fort Valley State University football team was recognized Thursday by fans and students for its recent SIAC Championship title.

After starting the season 1 and 6, the Wildcats rallied with four straight wins, including Saturday’s thrilling double overtime victory over Kentucky State in the conference championship game.

“We haven’t had a championship here at Fort Valley State University in 17 years,” FVSU SGA president Lawrence Malloy said before a recognition program at the school’s Student Amenities Center. “So it’s definitely been a great, great thing.”

The Wildcats got to the title game by beating Albany State and claiming the top spot in the SIAC Eastern Division.  They finished the season 5-6 overall.
