MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – 41NBC partnered up with several organizations Monday to help gather donations for a good cause.
The Macon Centreplex, along with the Macon Mayhem hockey team, helped the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank by accepting donations of non-perishable food items as well as monetary contributions as part of a food drive.
The drive started at 9 a.m. and lasted until 7 p.m. Monday evening.
Tyler Gambrell, who represents the management agency Spectra that runs the Centreplex, says that even the smallest amount of charity can make a big difference for families in need.
“One dollar can provide eight meals, so a little bit can go a long way,” Gambrell said. “We’re happy to be able to help the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank.”
“Whether you’re donating something out of your pantry or going to the store and getting something or donating money, it’ll help feed your neighbors locally,” said the bank’s executive director, Doug Rohme.
Rohme also said the best things to donate are items rich in protein, such as peanut butter, canned tuna, and canned chicken.
All donations given to the food bank will stay in the region, and be given out to local families in the area.
