MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Test results from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Crime Lab indicate a new type of fentanyl is in fake pills that authorities suspect killed four people in Central Georgia.
The GBI Crime Lab began testing a fake Percocet pill after more than a dozen people were hospitalized from the counterfeit pill, and four were killed.
A news release from the GBI states this new type of fentanyl is something the crime lab has never seen before. Fentanyl is proven to be deadly, even in small amounts.
Results from the testing also indicate the fake Percocet is a mixture of fentanyl and another type of synthetic opioid.
The GBI Crime Lab requires more time to confirm the full identity of the drug.
