MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Firefighters are used to training, they train to save lives. But this time, they’re training for a different reason, to take a spot on the 2018 Middle Georgia Firefighter Calendar.
For the past couple of days Macon-Bibb firefighters have been trying out for the calendar. They plan to sell the calendars to raise money for the Jay’s Hope Foundation and the Georgia Fallen Firefighters Association.
Firefighter Blaine Umbugh says the firefighters have been training for the shoot since November.
“Among some of our other duties we do have about an hour to workout if we don’t have calls,” said Umbugh. “It’s so much fun to get in there and workout hard, for a purpose. Not just to be in shape but ‘hey we’re going to do this calendar too’. Something to look forward to and keep you motivated.”
This is the first time in fifteen years the Macon-Bibb Fire Department has made the calendar.
Ninety firefighters tried out, but only 36 will make it. They plan to have their photo-shoot next week and have the calendars on sale by August.
