WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – More than 2,000 Flint Energies customers remain without power.
The company’s infrastructure was damaged by Tropical Storm Irma, making it hard for the company to get to customers quickly.
Marian McLemore, Vice President of Cooperative Communications for Flint Energies, said the company had damage to 35% of its infrastructure.
“35%, that’s more than a third of our system that was destroyed at one given time. We were very much prepared for it, but we took a direct hit by Tropical Storm Irma and even as much as we were prepared, the damage was just too great,” McLemore said.
The infrastructure included utility poles, power lines, distribution lines, and substations.
“We had to definitely rebuild our system and we were rebuilding, that 35% that took 80 years to build. We’re having to rebuild it in a matter of hours,” she said.
The company has rebuilt 31% of its infrastructure since the storm hit.
McLemore said customers should remember that it may take workers hours to restore power when they get to certain locations, so do your best to be patient.
“To clear the debris, assess the damage, restore it to the standards that we have, it just takes a lot of time,” she said.
McLemore said the goal is to have the remaining customers without power back up and running by Monday.
