Teen shot and killed in Macon makes 22nd homicide this year


UPDATE: The teen has been identified as 16 year old Jayvon Sherman.  Family members say Sherman was originally from North Carolina and had been attending Central High School since the beginning of the school year. Sherman was confirmed dead at 8:02 a.m. at the Medical Center, Navicent Health. He died from a gunshot wound to his chest.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) -A boy was found shot Thursday morning near the old Winship School near Beech Avenue.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating what appears to be a homicide. According to Sgt. Linda Howard, a person was walking near by just before 8 AM when they saw a body.

Coroner Leon Jones has confirmed the death of a 16-year-old boy, but will not release the name since deputies are still trying to contact the family. This makes it the 22nd homicide this year so far.
