MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) -The Bibb County Board of Education is moving forward with purchasing the Ed Defore Sports Complex.
The board is buying the complex from Macon-Bibb county for $3.8 million dollars. The complex is already used by middle and high schools in the area, but this purchase would just allow the schools to have more leeway in the use.
“I think it goes without saying that Defore is probably the most well-known of the three stadiums that we use primarily for football and soccer,” said BOE Chief of Staff, Keith Simmons. “It happens to be ideally situated, in terms of proximity for Westside High School, Howard High School as well as Rutland High School.”
The county plans to use that money from the sale to renovate Henderson Stadium.
There still needs to be paperwork signed until the Ed Defore Sports Complex officially belongs to the school board.
This will be the second stadium the board owns.
