Hurricane Florence latest forecast could still mean tropical impacts for Middle Georgia

Hurricane Florence has weakened to a category 3 hurricane today, but still poses a threat to areas of Middle Georgia.

The latest forecast track issued by the National Hurricane Center brings the western portion of the storm, potentially, to parts of Middle Georgia. While we will see some impacts from the system, they are likely to be when the storm has reached tropical depression status and winds are weaker.

One of the main threats across the southeast is flooding. Some areas across the east coast could see over 20″ of rain alone, not to mention the inundation of the storm surge which could be over 9′ in some parts of the Carolinas.

Gusty winds will be the main threat across Middle Georgia over the weekend. We could see wind gusts over 40 mph during the afternoon on Sunday.

Once again the forecast is subject to change as the system moves closer to the coast. We will continue to keep you updated as we get closer to the weekend.
