MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Get ready to pack your bags and head for the beach. Wednesday morning, Contour Airlines announced another non-stop flight destination out of Macon to Tampa.

Middle Georgia Regional Airport maybe a small airport, but its continuing to send customers to big cities – without the hustle and bustle of flying out of Atlanta.

“Tampa fit nicely because we’re using the same aircraft, same cruise. It fits within our existing schedule, so this is a great way for us to add incremental utilization to the schedule adding additional destination and give the community a chance to expand its air service,” Contour Airlines CEO Matt Chaifetz said.

Tampa makes number 11 for Contour Airlines’ list of destinations. For Middle Georgia Regional Airport, it’s welcoming Tampa as its second non-stop destination.

“We had some room in the schedule to add destination and this twice weekly service to Tampa fills in our schedule nicely,” he said.

Chaifetz says he saw a need for Tampa flights out of Macon.

“Tampa is a destination, we thought, we could easily stimulate with price. We think it’s high on Macon’s Current list of desired destinations according to the Passenger Traffic studies,” Chaifetz said.

Currently, Contour at Middle Georgia Regional Airport offers flights to Baltimore.

Macon-Bibb Mayor Robert Reichert says you can avoid the congestion of Atlanta’s airport and can get the same services and flights to big cities in Middle Georgia.

“I think that combination is going to be fantastic. Whether you want to go north or whether you want to go south, you can start your trip right here at Middle Georgia Regional Airport.

Non-stop flights to Tampa are seasonal, from December thru February. Chaifetz says if the demand for Tampa flights goes as he expects, he’s open to having flights to Tampa be an all year round flight.

Flights to Tampa will be Wednesdays and Saturdays, starting December 19th.
