MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Macon church took time out of its Sunday morning service to honor military veterans in its congregation.
United Community Church on Heath Road recognized service members from several different conflicts, including two who received Purple Hearts.
Alex Barringer was shot during the Vietnam War and Dula Ashley got a concussion from shrapnel in southern France during World War II.
“They are the ones that gave the sacrifice for us to be able to have the freedoms that we have here today to worship freely like we’re having the ability to do here today,” said pastor Cory Maurer. “We want to be able to make them feel appreciated–not only the ones here–but all those that are serving currently all over the world today.”
In all, 10 veterans were recognized during the ceremony.
