MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Northeast High School quarterback Nolan Ussery was arrested Monday after bringing a loaded handgun to school.
Bibb County Schools spokesperson Stephanie Hartley says the gun, a Ruger, LCP .380, was found by a coach in a locker in one of the athletic locker rooms at the school.
Ussery, who’s 19, was cooperative and the incident was reported to administration and Campus Police.
He turned himself in willingly Monday night and was charged with two felonies: Carrying a Weapon within a School Safety Zone, School Functions Property as Non-License Holder and Theft by Receiving Stolen Property.
Bibb County jail records show Ussery was booked at 7 p.m. and released on $9750 bond just after midnight.
Additional charges may be pending, according to Hartley, who wrote in an e-mail, “Our goal is to remain transparent with parents, and Northeast parents were notified about the incident by phone Monday. We will continue to conduct random searches, including those using handheld wands for metal detection, as well as canine-assisted searches at our campuses.”
Ussery, a senior, helped lead the Raiders to the GHSA AA playoffs this season. They fell to Swainsboro 23-7 in the first round.
