MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Uber drivers in Macon say their customers ask when Uber Eats is coming to the area. Today, it has finally arrived.

“This is pretty much my full-time. This is something I enjoy doing. I enjoy customer service and I enjoy the ride,” Uber driver William Hogan said.

He cruises Macon’s streets as an Uber driver, but now his customer service is expanding with Uber Eats.

“It’s long over due here in the Macon area and it’s been in high demand for the longest time. It’s been going on in Atlanta for years and it’s been [about] time for it to come down here to the Macon,” Hogan said.

Other food delivery services are already cruising Macon’s streets.  Fatty’s Pizza manager Jessie Gilleland is expecting business to continue to grow by adding Uber Eats.

“I know when they first came here they said they’re successful in Atlanta. Hopefully, it’s that way in Macon so that way we can get some more business because we are doing great now, but who doesn’t want more business,” Gilleland said.

She says the goal is to continue getting “Fatty’s” name out there, so business can grow to places like Atlanta. Gilleland believes Uber Eats will help.

“It gets our name out there because Fatty’s is great, it’s amazing pizza and everyone needs to try it so hopefully it just gets us to [expand],” she said.

Hogan says getting Uber Eats in Macon is just another sign the city is growing.

“Macon is definitely starting to become a little, big city. I say it’s probably going to become an ‘Atlanta Jr.'” Hogan said.

Parish on Cherry, Overtyme Bar and Grill, and McDonald’s are also taking part in Uber Eats. The list of restaurants will grow, according to Uber.

In a statement from Uber, they say quote:

“We’ve seen great interest in Uber Eats from customers in Macon and are excited to launch today – bringing a convenient way for people to get the food they love AND opening up new economic opportunities.”
