FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – There’s a new sheriff in town in Monroe County after Tuesday night’s election results.
Brad Freeman came out victorious against Lawson Cary Bittick III with a majority vote in the run-off election for sheriff.
He won by just under 1,000 votes with a total of 4,016 over Bittick’s 3,101.
Freeman says now his priority is to move the sheriff’s office he’s worked in for 32 years forward.
“We want to add some people on the patrol division so we can, you know, answer these calls in a more timely fashion. I’d love to see us institute a crime scene unit so we can better work with the citizens to better collect evidence,” he told 41NBC.
Freeman says he was a little surprised beating Bittick, whose family has held the position for generations, but says he worked hard to do it.
He will serve as sheriff in Monroe County for the next two years until 2020. That’s when the position will be up for grabs again.
